Mason Jar Cookies!

I was searching on Pintrest the other day, and yeah I know that makes me sound like a 35 year old women, but I'm okay with that. I knew that I wanted to at something inexpensive for my aunts and uncles that I don't really see to often. I came across these Santa cookies, and I fell in love. They are the perfect thing and they are so cheep to make. I proceeded to use this recipie that I found on http://www.culdesaccool.com/2012/11/14/5-diy-holiday-baked-gifts-in-a-jar-with-free-printable-recipe-tags/
1 quart mason jar
1 mason jar funnel
1 1/3 cup all purpose flour (make sure you level off the flour)
1 teaspoon baking soda
1 teaspoon baking powder
1/4 teaspoon salt
1 cup quick oats
3/4 cup M&M's
1/2 cup brown sugar
1/2 cup sugar
Fill to the top with chocolate chips

So my friend and I set out to make these, skipping our last Christmas dance, but it was so worth it.
I love this recipie, but I do have a few tweaks that I did.
Instead of mixing the flour, baking soda, powder and the salt just put the flour in first and then the other three. (When the person who you are giving it two mixed it up to bake, they will mix in evenly anyway.) Also, if you have a honey wand or tart shaper smash the brown sugar down after you are done putting it in because it will leave more room for the regular sugar and the chocolate chips. It also makes a cool effect with the brown sugar mixing in with the M&M's.
For the tags I just printed out what they had available, but if you want to get all creative and make your own, feel free! When we cut them out, we used straight scissors, but made sure to leave one side connected to make it eaiser to attach. When you are baking, stuff gets everywhere, or at least that always seems to happen to me. So we decided to laminate the directions so they didn't get too messy. We then cut those out with a pair of wavy scissors, and put a star hole punch in the corner, making sure to not cut any directions off.
Then we took green, white and red ribbon and tied them around the top of the jar, attaching the directions and making a cute little add on. If you wanted to cut out fabric and put it betweent the stopper thing and the twist on lid, that would also be a cute idea, but honestly I was just too lazy to go buy fabric and cut them all out!
I love how these turned out and if anyone tires them, be sure to leave more tips and tricks in the comments below!

Christmas is coming!!

It doesn't seem like all that long ago that I put up all my decorations and wrapped all of my presents from last year. I wanted to share with you guys how my family and I decorated our house and how I decorated my bedroom.

My mother twisted a chain of white flowers and a chain of poinsettias with lights in the center around a piece of garland and then placed a nice golden bow in the middle. I think that this looks so pretty. It is somewhat similar to a wreath, but since it hangs above the door and not on the door, it creates a different feel. Also this decoration will not get in your way. Some of the wreaths that are hung prevent doors from shutting completely, especially if you have a screen door and then your door, and they prevent you from seeing out of your door.

What is more festive than a cute Santa Clause and a snowy snowman in cookie jar form? My two favorite things! Cookies and cute places to put them! Most things in my house during the holidays are snowmen and Santa Clauses, because when my brother and I were born, it was decided that my Christmas ornament would be a snowman and my brothers would be Santa. So, in order to be fair, my mom just had to buy both. When I excitedly asked her what cookies we were going to put in them, she told me that they were just for decoration, making me sad.

Moving on to non food related things, this snowman stocking has been my stocking for all seventeen of my Christmases. It hangs on one side of my mothers piano and my brothers stocking is hung on the other side. My parents are very sneaky when it comes to these stocking and our presents. They usually find a small gift, as well as all the sweets that they put in, and wrap that present the same way that they wrapped our presents. So when we see a big present, such as the one below, and we want to know whose it is, we won't know until we get to out stocking on Christmas morning. Sneaky mommy and daddy :).

No one can have presents without putting them under their tree! My mother usually decorates the big 6-foot tree in these ornaments, but this year, she could only put a few of her ornaments on her tree because we have two little kittens and this is their first Christmas.

Instead of having three trees this year like we usually do (one for my mother, one for me, and one for my brother), we only have one. The little kitties are bad and they like to chew on the tree and play with the low hanging ornaments, so we thought that we wouldn't tempt them with three trees and only try one this year.

This is a beautiful centerpiece that my mom has added some flowers, garland, and some other little bits and bobs along with five red candles at the top. This sits on top of the piano, above the stockings, instead of being on the table. Centerpieces are not really a big thing in my family and out table is not big enough for a center piece of this size.

Also a few little festive tea-towles and rags with festive things on them, such as this one with Santa's face on it, can really tie a room together.

Moving on to my room, I have a small tree on the table at the end of my bed with some of my mothers ornaments on it. I also made the little topper out of left over wrapping paper from wrapping my presents. I find this tree to really make my festive spirit come out, as I have never really decorated my room before.

On my dresser, there are a couple of candles surrounded by garland with pinecones and other little things attached to them. (I found these while raiding my moms Christmas things.) Also, I put my make-up, that is usually in this plain box, into a festive little green and red basket. I find that late at night when I am up and the only things that are illuminating my room are these candles and my Christmas tree, it makes me really excited for Christmas to come.

  • I find that snow and cold weather makes me really happy and it means that Christmas is coming. I was really happy this morning when I woke up and saw snow on the ground. We might have a WHITE CHRISTMAS!!!
